October goals and September recap…
avatar

As I sit here, it finally dawns on me that it is almost the middle of October.  Where is 2011 going?  It is blowing right by at a high rate of speed… Where is the cop when you need one? (Pun intended)  There never seems to be enough time in a day to complete what you set put to do for the day.  Many distractions…  I need more focus.  Anyone know where I can buy some focus at a good price? :-)  The one thing I do love about writing this blog is that I feel like I am held responsible accountable, by you, my readers.  I am being held accountable for not only writing this blog, but also to complete the goals I set for myself.  Goals will be completed, deferred, deleted and added.  It is a good checks and balances system.  You all really keep me in line and on track.  Anyway… ramblings aside…

September 2011 goals – Recap

  • COMPLETED - Get caught up on my back taxes and assess the financial damage.  By not taking care of business, it will cost me $$.  I will blog more about this shortly.
I have filed all of my back tax paperwork and have received a bill from the IRS for $5347.33 – OUCH That seriously hurt but at least I am caught up to date.  I am just waiting for the state of Virginia to send me what I owe them.  It should be around $1000.00
  • COMPLETED - Celebrate my 38th birthday with friends and family on September 20th.
I enjoyed my birthday with a nice dinner at a nice Thai restaurant.
  • IN PROGRESS - Get my weight back under control with diet and exercise
I am working out again, but not as much as I want.  Time for a new goal for October.
  • FAILED – Sell unneeded items such as extra cameras, cds, dvds…etc.  I need Craiglist and eBay to become my new best friends.
I listed 1 thing on Craigslist and didn’t follow up on it.  I guess I will try my hand at eBay.  I used it a long time ago and did pretty well with it.  I guess since I owe the KGB, I mean IRS almost $5400.00 I really need to sell stuff.  I will also list things here on my blog.  Keep an eye out for nice things for sale at awesome prices!
  • IN PROGRESS – Down size more.  Sort, give, sell…items stored in boxes are not doing me any good but taking up space.
More boxes got sorted and items were donated or trashed.  I have some things to sell and that will come soon…

October 2011 – Goals – I realized the month is almost half over so I guess I will have to work extra hard to get things done.  Here is what I have planned

  • Continue working on getting my weight under control by working out at least 3 times a week.
  • List items for sale on this blog and eBay and forward the proceeds to the KGB…I mean IRS…
  • Feng Shui – Feng what???  I really need to rearrange and organize my office.  It still feels very cluttered and harmony of productivity is not flowing as well as it should.
  • Investigate a new theme for The Angry Millionaire blog.  I am not liking the notebook theme as well as I thought.  I want something more crisp, clean and more in sync with the ideas I write about.

How are your goals for October coming?  Any major goals about to be complete?  Let me know!  I want to hear from you.

That’s great that you are blogging about your goals and your progress. Announcing it publicly is an excellent way of staying accountable!

My goals for October mostly center around blogging, networking and educating myself. I have started blogging 3 times a week on a consistent basis. I’d like to get more involved in the Yakezie network, in terms of discussion and networking with other network and challenge members. And I’d like to learn how to become a better writer. I’m working on this goal by reading personal finance bestsellers. As you know, I just finished reading “Rich Dad Poor Dad” (I like the reference in this post by the way) and I just started reading “The Wealthy Barber”.

    Keep up the great work!

Very true and sometimes accountability is all we need to stay on track. I need to schedule more blog posts. I want to start writing no less than 4 times a week. I have to keep it interesting. I have tons of topics to write about, I just have to make them a priority. I have learned to become a good writer, you have to write! Just as Michael Jordan became a basketball icon, he did it with much practice. I never used to like to write, but writing about personal finance makes me very motivated.

It is good that you are educating yourself with finance books. I just recently finished Dave Ramsey’s “Financial Peace” and “My Total Money Makeover.” I suggest reading them and in that order. I enjoyed “The Rich Dad Poor Dad” series as well. You will have to let me know how “The Wealthy Barber” turns out. If you get to meet David Chilton and get him to sign a copy of his book for you, “don’t forget a brotha.” :-)

  2. I feel like this year is flying by so fast too! Having goals is really important and even though it feels like goals take a while to complete, it’s totally worth it. Keep it up!

I don’t know if you are working with a person or agency about your back taxes but I’ve worked with the IRS before (and still do) so if you have any questions let me know. You could probably cut a deal with them and get your tax bill lowered or something to that extent.

Thanks Carrie! The to-do list is ever growing. It seems like when I get 5 things done, 10 more get put on my list… I guess that is life for you. I had to file 3 years. 2008, 2009 and 2010 to get caught up to current. I owe them $5347.33 including penalties/interest. I called to extend my payment deadline to Feb 9th, 2012. Now I am going to push as much money to them as fast as I can and hope I have enough time to get them paid. I feel this will give me the extra “push” to get motivated about selling things I have put off. I have a very nice Canon 30D camera, lenses tripod and bag that cost about $1600.00 new. It hasn’t seen much use at all and still looks new. I think I can get $800.00 for it easily so that will take a chunk out of it. I am not sure what you could do but I am all about paying less money…

  3. I really enjoy reading your blog and I especially like the fact that you not only post your successes but your failures as well. I feel others can relate more to you when we see the goals you did not actually meet. Not saying that I don’t like you to meet them all but, it just makes us see we are not alone. Not all the time do you get to watch someone going through the process with you. The majority of the time, you are only seeing those who have all ready “been there, done that” It seems more “real” and personal. Thanks for sharing with us!!

    • Martilyo says:

I think it is important to include our failures as well as our successes. Many times our failures are just ways that our life corrects our direction on the journey of life. A student I had when I was teaching for Old Dominion University signed his email with “A setback is a setup for a comeback.” I am not sure if that is something he came up with or some famous quote somewhere but I like it. The only time it is too late to improve your life is when it is over. I am actually enjoying this journey, sharing it with others. I hope to inspire, motivate and educate as many people as I come into contact with and hopefully learn something myself. Thanks for commenting!
